UPDATE: Home Explodes, Gas Leak Suspected

An explosion is blamed for a house fire in the 700-block of University Ave. E, just blocks from Caesars Windsor.

Windsor police officials say no one was home around midnight when the explosion occurred.  A fire official says the blast in the basement bowed the east wall.

Officials believe a gas leak sparked the blaze.  Investigators with the Technical Safety and Security Authority are checking to see if a gas leak sparked the explosion and officials from the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshall arrive on the scene Friday afternoon.

Damage to the home is estimated at $150,000 and the investigation is expected to continue on Saturday.
