Police Dog Bites Alleged Prowler

A 31-year-old man is nursing a dog bite and faces a list of charges after Windsor Police got a call about a prowler in the west end of the city.

A resident in the 500-block complained about a man breaking into a pick-up truck in a parking lot in the 1000-block of Wyandotte St. W around 11pm Friday. When the officer arrived at the parking lot, she spotted a man walking away from a pickup with a smashed in window. When he saw the officer, he casually walked up to the back door of a home and started knocking as if he lived there. The officer asked the suspect to take his hands out of his pockets, but he refused and suddenly ran across the road to Leopard's Lounge where he exited out a west side door.

Not long after, police received information a man fitting the suspect's description trying to break into a home in the 500-block of Wellington Ave. The suspect was riding away on a bicycle stolen from a home in the 500-block of Cameron when the officer warned him to stop, or she would send the police dog after him. He ignored her and the dog latched onto his left arm.

The suspect suffered a small puncture wound but refused medical treatment.

Jonathan Edwards, 31, faces two counts of theft, two counts of possession of stolen property, mischief and two counts of failing to comply with the conditions of his release.
