Grocery Store Fire In McGregor

Damage is pegged at $80,000 after a fire on Saturday at Allen's Supermarket on County Rd. 11 in McGregor.

"There was structural damage to the rear portion of the building obviously from the fire and there was smoke damage throughout," says Randy Sinasac, the fire chief in Amherstburg adding the fire is being ruled accidental. "The fire originated in the electrical panel and got up into the walls and into the ceiling and roof area."

In all, 34 firefighters responded around 1pm on Saturday, the only grocery store in the community.

A firefighter picked up a minor injury, but no one else was hurt as a result of the fire.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
