With temperatures expected to dip near -30 C (-22 F) with the wind chill, a cold weather alert has been issued by the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit that will last until Friday.
Temperatures are expected to plunge to -16 C (3 F) overnight tonight into Thursday.
Thursday night a frigid -29 C (-20 F) is forecasted with the wind chill. If temperatures drop below -27 C (-16 F), the cold weather alert will change to an extreme cold weather alert.
Warning signs of hypothermia include shivering, exhaustion, confusion, memory loss, slurred speech and drowsiness.
The health unit urges anyone who experiences hypothermia or frostbite, especially children and the elderly, to get warm and seek medical attention.
