Parking Changes In Windsor

Parking rates are going up $0.25 at meters and lots in Windsor, while an end-date is given for one-hour free parking at downtown garages.

City council decided to boost rates during budget deliberations Monday night, while giving one year until the end of free one-hour parking at garages on Goyeau St. and Pelissier St.

Chair of the Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association Larry Horowitz says that gives time for the BIA and city to form a new parking strategy. "We could still look at the possibility of keeping the one-hour free parking at the parking garages. We could look at the possibility of free parking on Saturdays. We could look at things like the times meters are charged and the rates they're charged."

City officials say the extra $0.25 at meters and lots in Windsor should generate an extra $300,000 in revenue. Windsor's currently running a $1.8-million off-street parking reserve deficit.
