Tree Helps Nab B&E Suspect

A low-hanging tree branch and a few quick-moving officers are being credited for catching a break-and-enter suspect in Windsor's east end.

The Windsor Police Service says officers arrived at the Dirty Jerseys Sports Grill on Tecumseh Rd. E Monday morning for an alarm call, only to find a man with a backpack walking away from the pub.

Once the suspect noticed police, he began running towards a vehicle saying "wait for me, wait for me," police say. The man was slowed down after striking a tree branch, which allowed officers to arrest the suspect.

Police are looking for the vehicle that sped away described as a silver Chrysler Neon or something similar. Investigators say the suspects smashed the front door of Dirty Jerseys and stole cash from gaming machines. A 43-year-old Leamington man is facing charges while police search for the vehicle that fled the scene.
