Signifying A New Beginning

St. Gregory Catholic Elementary will have a new name when it re-opens as a French immersion school in the fall.

The Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board's decided to rename it after St. Andre.

Board Chair Barb Holland says the name represents a new beginning for the facility. "The reason St. Andre was recommended is because he is known for being welcoming, opening doors, and starting conversations. He was English and French, but more than that, he represented the best in all of us, and that's what we really believe our schools are."

School board administrators recommended the name at Tuesday night's meeting, and council agreed to the change.

St. Andre's school council will be expected to come up with a new mascot, slogan and school colours in the fall.
