Warden Calls Budget Increase Fair

The County of Essex 2015 budget is moving forward to the February 18 meeting for final adoption.

Warden Tom Bain calls the proposed 1.5% tax increase very reasonable.

"This is going to allow us to go forward with a lot of work that's been sitting out there, especially in the area of roads and we know at the Sun Parlor Home, we've got things that have to be done with the building itself out there, so I think [the tax increase] is quite fair," says Bain.

The tax increase would mean a $13 jump in the bill on a home worth $200,000. The 2015 budget is $145-million with nearly $81.6-million coming from property taxes.
