Walk To Support Downtown Mission

The Downtown Mission in Windsor hopes you'll put a team together for this Saturday's Coldest Night of the Year walk.

The local event is part of a nationwide campaign to raise awareness and money for programs to help the homeless. Last year, it raised $42,000 for programs at the Downtown Mission, and Director of Development and Community Relations Ron Dunn hopes to raise $50,000 this year. The goal Canada-wide is $3-million.

"The whole purpose is to get people to see what it's like outside," says Dunn. "The difference is after the event; we're going to come back to the Mission. We're going to have some nice warm stew maybe or some soup, a bowl of chili. We get to go home. We're walking for those who don't get to go home."

Those interested can register online for the 2k,5k or 10k walk.

Since 2011, the event has raised $4.9-million for homelessness programs across Canada.
