County Adopts 2015 Budget

Essex County councillors are happy with the 2015 budget brought forward by Treasurer Rob Maisonville as the document was given quick approval Wednesday night.

Administration started working on the current budget in October of last year before councillors saw the draft budget publicly for the first time at the February 4 regular meeting.

The budget includes a 1.54% tax increase for county residents, equalling roughly a $13 jump on the tax bill for a home worth $200,000. Also included is money for road work at $14-million while $340,000 is set aside as the county begins saving for the proposed mega-hospital for the region.

The total budget is $145.2-million with nearly $81.6-million coming from property taxes.
