Cutting Hair For A Cause

A local Windsor girl is celebrating her 13th birthday by helping those undergoing cancer treatment.

Lauren Cunningham is holding a fundraiser called Lauren's Locks of Love on Sunday, at the Shoppers Drug Mart on Tecumseh Rd. E at Howard Ave. Lauren chose to donate her hair to be used as a wig for someone living with cancer. She's also raising money for the Hospice of Windsor and Essex County by holding a bake sale and raffles.

Lauren's father, Roy Cunningham, says his daughter has always been very giving.

"Back when (Lauren) was 9, she actually saw a little girl who had no hair and she asked my wife why the little girl had no hair," he says. "It was explained that she was probably going through treatment, and Lauren actually wanted to go back and give the little girl her hair."

Roy says Lauren first donated her hair for the first time on her tenth birthday, in memory of her grandmother who passed away from cancer five days before she was born. Lauren was also born the same day as her grandmother.
