Health Unit Alert Continues

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is extending its extreme cold weather alert into Wednesday.

Today's temperature is near -27 C (-17 F) with the windchill, and Environment Canada is predicting it to stay below -17 C (1 F) until about mid-Wednesday.

Acting Associate Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed suggests staying warm and dry, and if you must go outside, cover as much exposed skin as possible to avoid frostbite.

Cold weather also puts extra strain on the heart. People with heart disease or high blood pressure should avoid strenuous outdoor activities.
