OCIF Grants For Local Towns

The provincial government is handing out some infrastructure grants Wednesday, with almost $5-million coming to Essex County municipalities.

Amherstburg gets the largest Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund grant at $2-million. It will be used to reconstruct a section of Texas Rd.

Kingsville is getting just over $1-million for flooding work, according to Mayor Nelson Santos. "It's good news all around for the town of Kingsville and certainly the residents in that area that have experienced flooding over the last few years," he says. Work near Wigle Ave. should begin this summer.

Essex gets $1.6-million for the reconstruction of Fairview Ave. and Leamington receives $360,000 to cover a portion of bridge reconstruction.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
