A fire official in Windsor says at least four people are homeless after a fire started at one home on Assumption St. and quickly spread to another.
Deputy Fire Chief Brian McLaughlin says the fire started around 4:30am at a multi-unit home at 833-835 Assumption. It then spread to the roof of 839 Assumption St. "The two structures are so close that their roofs are actually touching. So when crews initially arrived the fire was located in the breezeway between both structures."
Damage to the two buildings is estimated at $500,000.
Four people inside the second home escaped unharmed.
The fire is under control, but firefighters continue to put out hot spots.
The fire prevention officer is on the scene, and officials have notified the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshall. The cause is under investigation.
