Assumption Street Fire Ruled Arson

Monday morning's fire on Assumption St. is being ruled arson.

Windsor Fire Deputy Chief Brian McLaughlin says the investigation into the blaze at 833, 835, 837 and 839 Assumption St. has concluded and the case is now being turned over to Windsor police.

He says construction equipment is on the property because the roofs needed to be ripped off of the two duplexes.  "This investigation required an excavator to come in.  We had structural engineers come in and assess the structures before we could allow any of our people back into the buildings for investigative purposes," explains McLaughlin.

The fire started on the exterior of the vacant 833 and 835 duplex at around 4:30am Monday, and ended up causing $500,000 in total damage.

Four people inside the 837 and 839 residences managed to escape without injury.
