Great Lakes Cruises Gaining Popularity

Cruises on the Great Lakes are growing in popularity according to an area operator.

Chris Conlin is president of Great Lakes Cruise Company which has an office in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He says comparing an Ocean and Great Lakes cruise are like comparing apples and oranges.

"More on an educational slant and an enrichment slant versus the ships being the destination down in the Caribbean," says Conlin. "The destination here is the itinerary, not necessarily the ship." Conlin says his ships have been stopping in Windsor for about 15 years. He adds that cruising the Great Lakes has continued to grow since the 1990's.

He says the average price of a nine night cruise on the Great Lakes is $4,000-$5,000 because the ships usually only carry about 100-200 people.
