Petition Calls For Local Policing

A petition is being presented to Amherstburg Council asking to keep town policing local.

Soon after he was elected last November, Mayor Aldo DiCarlo suggested investigating the possibility of joining Windsor and LaSalle in a regional police force. He said he'd heard the suggestion while campaigning, and felt the town should at least examine the possibility.

Windsor Council is now waiting for a report back on the cost effectiveness of sharing resources with Amherstburg and LaSalle.

LaSalle's mayor was initially against the proposal, but later, Ken Antaya agreed to talk about it.

Resident Darlene Meloche presents the petition with the signatures of 1,010 people tonight.
