Humane Society Low On Pets

The Windsor-Essex County Humane Society is low on animals as it's on track to set yet another adoption record this year.

Executive director Melanie Coulter says the humane society has adopted 150 more pets in 2015 compared to this time last year.

Coulter also says the shelter has fewer animals than usual because 18 cats were transferred to London. "The London Humane Society had more adopters than cats available on their adoption floor," says Coulter. "They took some of the guys who have been hanging around in our adoption area for a while."

Coulter also says the effectiveness of the spay and neuter program is evident as fewer cats are coming in. "The number of cats that have been coming in since 2011 is definitely lower and that's a good thing because we were seeing some extraordinary numbers around that time," says Coulter. "Seeing those numbers a little bit lower is definitely what our goal was."

Last year Coulter says the humane society set an all-time record with more than 2,000 adoptions.
