The Ontario Provincial Police received word of an assault last Friday at a home in the 300-block of Essex County Rd. 18. Two men got into an altercation, and the one allegedly choked and threatened the other.
The victim suffered minor injuries in the assault.
The suspect is charged with assault, uttering threats, and overcome resistance by attempting to choke.
SPS Board Chair Kelly Ash said the decision followed discussions with Acting Chief Mike Federico and aligns with practices at other police services.
