Fire investigators have ruled the blaze on Gladstone Ave. as undetermined and no criminal activity has been found at this point.
Upwards of 32 firefighters battled a massive blaze Tuesday evening that saw flames shooting out the roof Nunes Janitorial at 1574 Gladstone Ave. The fire caused $400,000 in damage.
The fire started at around 6:30pm inside the building. Chief Fire Prevention Officer John Lee says nobody was inside at the time and no injuries have been reported. When fire crews arrived he says the warehouse area was fully engulfed in flames. "The office area is still standing. The warehouse area is pretty much through the roof and pretty much gutted," says Lee.
Neighbours and onlookers were asked to keep their distance as a small quantity of bleach was inside. The hazmat unit was on standby as a precaution. "Because of the nature of the business there was a likelihood that there could have be some chemicals in there and could have been much worse," says Lee. He says there was never any risk to public safety as there was only a small amount of bleach inside.
