New Tax Scam Warning

Windsor police say scammers impersonating the Canada Revenue Agency are now targeting people over the phone.

Recently, police advised the public about a fake CRA email stating your tax refund is available on a bogus website.

Now, police say fraudsters are calling residents demanding an outstanding debt be paid or they could be in trouble with the government and police. The caller tells the victim to purchase a Visa gift card and provide that information over the phone to pay the debt.

Windsor police are reminding the public the CRA never contacts you by email or asks that you pay them with a gift card.
