Tecumseh-Brock Sculpture Work Beginning

A bronze sculpture of Chief Tecumseh and General Brock, set to be placed in Sandwich Towne's Patterson Park, can now be constructed.

The City of Windsor's entered into an official agreement with an American artist for $225,000.

Engineer Mario Sonego says the city had to work out a fair price with the artist, while factoring in the Canadian dollar's exchange rate. "It's changed in the last four or five months, so we had to deal with that issue. The artist is taking some risk, and then if it changes based on, I think 79 cents, then we'll have to pay more."

City councillor ward funds, totalling $48,000, were donated last November to prepare a site at Patterson Park.

Sonego says the Friends of Sandwich Library and Windsor Port Authority will be donating a couple thousand dollars each year for the next ten years for maintainance. The cost of the sculpture and any additional maintainance will come from the city's Windsor-Essex Community Fund.
