Town Disputes Increased E.L.K. Charge

Councillors in Lakeshore are upset over the size of increase E.L.K. Energy wants to allow the town to connect street lights to their poles.

The utility wants $22 per pole, which is over ten times what they currently pay Hydro One, according to Mayor Tom Bain. "This is going to come to over $8,000. We do similar to Hydro One, but it's $2 per pole. We just figure it's way too much per pole."

Bain was the town's member on the E.L.K board when the increase was proposed. He says himself and the Kingsville representative voted against it, but it still passed.

The Town of Essex owns the utility and has a majority on the board.
