Public Board Dealing With Redundancies

The Greater Essex County District School Board is sending out redundancy notices to 40 teachers early next week.

Superintendent of Education John Howitt stresses no one is going to be out of work.

"No one is losing their job. Everyone will still have a job. We do have some redundant teachers heading into next year based on declining enrollment, but everyone will still have their job," says Howitt.

She's confident updated enrollment numbers heading into the new school year will show an improved situation.

"We're very optimistic that we will have more enrollment between now and September," says Howitt. "The redundancies may be reduced from what we currently have."

Howitt says those labelled redundant will fill spots of retiring teachers or those on leave.
