The Windsor Fire and Rescue Service says on Friday around 6:15pm, firefighters responded to the blaze at 4036 Mt Royal Dr.
Fire officials say the residents of the home were not injured in the fire, which is being blamed on careless cooking.
Damage to the home is pegged at around $150,000.
SPS Board Chair Kelly Ash said the decision followed discussions with Acting Chief Mike Federico and aligns with practices at other police services.
