The Windsor Fire and Rescue Service says on Thursday around 11:15pm, the fire started in an eight-unit apartment building. Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control before midnight.
Fire officials say an investigator will be attending the scene.
The cause of the fire and a damage estimate are unknown at this time.
SPS Board Chair Kelly Ash said the decision followed discussions with Acting Chief Mike Federico and aligns with practices at other police services.
