ETFO Announcement Expected Friday

The union that represents public elementary school teachers is expected to announce soon how its members will carry out a central strike action that starts on Monday.

Essex County members of the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario got details at a meeting at the Ciociaro Club Wednesday night.

Teachers will be in the classroom Monday morning, but ETFO President Sam Hammond is expected to announce what form job action will take public on Friday.

Essex County Chapter President Adelina Cecchin says the dispute over prep time and class sizes has been brewing for months. "We are now trying to send a message back to the government that what we're looking for is real bargaining," she says. "Concession bargaining is not one of the options."

On the local level, Cecchin says a number of meetings are scheduled with the Greater Essex County District School Board's bargaining team for later this month and June.
