Money Put Aside For Demolition

The Town of Essex is ready to spend $275,000 to tear down Essex Memorial Arena and the downtown silos.

Deputy Mayor Richard Meloche says administration is working to have the arena done as soon as possible, which could be just weeks from now. "We've had so much back-and-forth conversation on what we think can be done with it and what groups want to rejuvenate it. We've done so much of that already that we just want to be done with it at this point in time."

On the other hand, the town is still undecided about what to do with the silos. It's still waiting to see if it gets a federal grant to rejuvenate them before bringing in the wrecking ball.

Meloche thinks a decision will be made on the silos before this fall's federal election.
