The fire at 2592 Curry Ave. involved a two-storey home that started in the shed and spread to the house.
Officials say the fire caused $60,000 in damage.
The cause is undetermined.
SPS Board Chair Kelly Ash said the decision followed discussions with Acting Chief Mike Federico and aligns with practices at other police services.
