Plenty Of County Construction

County drivers are being asked to exercise a bit of patience this summer as $5-million in road resurfacing is scheduled across Essex County.

County Engineer Tom Bateman says it's going to be an extremely busy summer. "Virtually every corner of the county will be touched this summer," says Bateman. "The large project on Hwy. 3 under the MTO and the 401 project will also start. There's a rehabilitation project on Highway 401 into Chatham, which will have some impact."

Bateman says the $5-million in road work is only half of of all the construction. "We're running about a $10-million rehab program annually, which is distributed between roads and bridges."Road resurfacing is expected all over the county this summer stretching from Amherstburg to Lakeshore.

"Your roadwork, for the most part, we maintain traffic," he says. "There may be single-lane delays and typically after hours roads are opened back up."
