Rain Hurts Grand Prix Attendance

Saying the rain dampened the track but not the spirit of fans, officials from the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix admit attendance was down at this year's event.

About 65,000 people attended the event over three days.  Saturday was the busiest day with approximately 30,000 visitors on Belle Isle.  Cooler temperatures, a strong wind and rain contributed to the attendance of a little over 15,000 Sunday, the day of the INDYCAR race.

Last year, 110,000 attended the event over three days.

Grand Prix officials say the race produced solid returns in television ratings with numbers higher than any INDYCAR event this season aside from the Indianapolis 500.
