Sex-Ed Opt Out Concerns (Gallery)

There is some concern among parents with how their kids can be removed from the new Liberal sex-ed curriculum come September.

Tammy Moore is a parent of four in the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board. She attended a protest today outside of NDP Windsor-West MPP Lisa Gretzky's office. Moore says she's been frustrated with the Catholic board after inquiring about opting her kids out of the new sex-ed curriculum.

"It's almost like they don't want us to have an accommodation and my question is why? Why don't you want us to be able to opt out, (they're) our children," Moore says. "If we don't agree with it and you don't agree with our position, fine, but let us pull our kids."

Catholic school board spokesperson Stephen Fields says parents wishing to opt out their kids will have to wait until September because the curriculum is currently being adopted by the board. He says parents will have to select specific parts they don't agree with and provide reasons for a religious exemption.

Two other rallies were also held in front of the offices of Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Percy Hatfield and Essex MPP Taras Nadyshak.
