Where Do You Get Food

The United Way Windsor-Essex County wants to know how you access your food.

It's launched an online survey as it starts work on a ten-year food sustainability plan.

CEO Lorraine Goddard says the survey is designed to answer key questions about the sustainability of the current food bank system, and whether it preserves the dignity of its users. It asks where residents get their food, and what barriers if any, they face.

Goddard says it's apparent agencies have to re-examine food delivery in the region. "38% of food bank users are children and we really are having a whole generation of children growing up to be normalized that eating from a food bank on a regular basis is completely normal."

She says the fastest growing demographic of users is the working poor.

Goddard hopes to start implementing the new plan next year.
