The Town of Essex is investigating its "broken" billing system after some residents receive bills without full descriptions of what they're paying for. Anna Markett is one of those frustrated residents who received a drainage bill for a project she thought was already paid. "Is it just a billing issue? Was it just a double bill that accidentally went through? We don't know at this point," she says. "If I had just paid the bill and not known any better, that to me is not okay." Councillor Sherry Bondy wants to know "what the F is going on" with the town's billing system. Council passed a motion that no drainage bills be sent out without including a full description. "It's a total embarrassment ," says Councillor Larry Snively. An investigation into the draining department is now underway to pinpoint the billing issues, which some councillors say have been happening for at least three years.
