Boost For Essex County Trail Systems

The federal government is laying out $1-million for seven projects in Essex County today.

Half of that goes to the Essex Region Conservation Foundation's effort to complete the Chrysler Canada Greenway between Essex and Amherstburg.

President Susan Stockwell-Andrews says it's a $1-million project, which they now have $750,000 for. "We know that we'll be able to start (construction) in 2016 and be able to complete the trail by 2017. So it's really a great opportunity for us. It's something that we expected would take a longer time to complete."

Lakewood Park Trail in Tecumseh is getting $400,000, while the other $100,000 is being used to fix up a number of Royal Canadian Legion branches in Windsor-Essex.

This money comes from the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program.
