Aggressive Phone Scam Targets Locals

A new phone scam is hitting the area with an aggressive person on the other end demanding money.

LaSalle police are issuing a warning after one of its residents got a call from a Patrick Bell demanding $1,500 in 20 minutes.

If the person didn't comply, police say the person threatened to have them arrested.

The resident was told to pay the money through a Western Union to a Calvin Nikolai in Edmonton, Alberta. If they wanted to pay through a bank, the caller said it would be an extra $800.

When LaSalle police called the number back -- 450-977-5706 -- they say the person had nothing to say and hung up.

The telephone number is known to others online as being involved in similar scams, police say.
