More Leamington Hospital Funding In Jeopardy

Officials at Leamington District Memorial Hospital are sounding the alarm over a possible loss of $700,000 in funding.

To receive the cash, according to hospital CEO Terry Shields, emergency department visits can't fall below 29,000 per year. "Last year we finished just over 300 visits short. This year we're tracking very close to that 29,000."

Sheilds says money means services and jobs. If they lose the funding, it would impact other parts of the hospital.

Officials have spoken to the Erie St. Clair LHIN about the funding, and are hopeful they can find other funding.

Shields says they were criticized over the obstetrics department closure for not being open with the public, so he wants to be sure residents understand the funding issues they face.
