Advisory Lifted At Hillman Marsh Beach

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has rescinded its advisory for blue-green algae at Hillman Marsh Beach in Leamington.

A notice on the agency's website says the water was tested Wednesday, and the level of microcystins is acceptable. The health unit issued the advisory last month after an inspector found an algae bloom while conducting regular beach testing.

Wheatley Beach recently reopened after a similar advisory there.

Across Essex County, there are postings at Sandpoint, West Belle River, Hillman, Point Pelee, Mettawas, Cedar Island, Colchester and Holiday beaches because bacteria counts in the water exceed 100.

Cedar Beach is closed because bacteria counts there exceed 1000.
