U-Haul Taking Over Old Wickes Plant

If the site plan gets approval, U-Haul is expected to take over the old Wickes Windsor Bumper Manufacturing Plant.

The building in the 9000-block of Tecumseh Rd. E has sat empty since the facility closed in 1990. The City of Windsor took ownership of it in 2009 and initiated the environmental cleanup before fire destroyed much of it in June 2014.

The fire caused $1-million in damage, and the investigation resulted in the arrest of two teens.

U-Haul wants approval to build a 481, 338 sq ft facility that will house self-storage, truck and trailer rentals, leasing, and general warehousing.

There's no word how many jobs the facility would create or when it would open. So far, emails and calls to the applicants in Phoenix Arizona have not been returned to BlackburnNews.com.
