Best Turnout Ever For John Atkinson Tournament

The John Atkinson Memorial Golf Tournament is happy to contribute about $5,000 to the Windsor-Essex County Cancer Centre Foundation.

Shelley Atkinson says in five years of running events to honour her former husband, yesterday's turnout at the Ambassador Golf Club was the best she's seen.

"I think we had 130 golfers. So all the planning and organization paid off," says Atkinson.

Next year will be the tenth anniversary of the former Windsor police officer's death.

Each year, Atkinson and her team of organizers choose a different charity. Money from the tournament is expected to go to the John Atkinson Fund in 2016. That's a scholarship which is being set up for students taking police-related courses at St. Clair College.
