No Charges For Smokestack Demo

City officials won't be laying any charges after the GM smokestack came crashing down without anyone knowing.

Demolition contractors under the Jones Group used an excavator to push the smokestack over.

“It would have been better if city departments had been notified ahead of time so we could have shared with emergency officials, the media and residents. However, this was not officially required due to the change in demolition tactics," says Chief Building Official John Revell.

If explosives were used, that's when emergency officials must have been notified.

The smokestack came down Tuesday, with three failed attempts before that.
