The blaze was reported just after 8am.
Roughly 15 minutes later, fire crews say the flames had been put out and they were venting smoke from the home.
Unattended cooking is blamed for the fire which caused about $10,000 damage.
There were no injuries.
People in southern Huron and Lambton counties are being told to limit their time outside.
