Protesters Target Harper During Campaign Stop

Prime Minister Stephen Harper's promise of a new manufacturing fund did little to impress protesters during his campaign stop in Windsor.

A group of protesters rallied outside of Anchor Danly on Sunday while the Conservative leader announced the new $100-million Manufacturing Technology Demonstration Fund, which would be set up for the 2017-2018 fiscal year.

Protester Paul Chislett calls Harper's visit to Windsor an "insult".

"It was a shame to see people walk out with the placards that said 'the economy is number one priority when clearly, in this city, he couldn't care less about manufacturing all while he was in power," he says.

During the campaign event, Harper defended his record on manufacturing despite the protest outside, which focused on the city's heavy job losses and Windsor having the highest unemployment rate in Canada.

"He has no right to even be here. To me, anyone who votes Conservative in this area is a waste of a vote," says protester Leo Lucier. "I'm a Liberal but the last party in the race is the Green (Party), and I'd rather vote for the Greens than the Conservatives, any day."

The prime minister also made a stop at Crest Mold Technology in Oldcastle earlier in the day.
