University Contracting Work Creating Local Job Loss

CUPE Local 1001 University of Windsor custodians, kitchen staff, landscapers and more, are fighting against the contracting out of campus work.

"You're coming into work not knowing, from one week to the next, if you even have a job or how many more people are going to be cut. That's not a good feeling," says Union President Jeff Martin.

Martin's been a janitor at the school for 27 years, and believes he and his close to 400 members will be out of jobs by the time the Local 1001's contract runs out in July of 2016.

He says the school continues to contract out work for its new facilities, which has lead to the loss of work in nine campus buildings already.

An information rally was held on campus this morning.
