September Housing Starts And Sales Up

Both housing starts and sales are up according to the Windsor-Essex County Association of Realtors and the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.

The association says despite a 5.86% drop in market activity last month over September 2014, sales jumped 16.51%. The latest monthly statistics say 508 homes changed hands last month. So far this year, 4816 homes have been sold, an increase of 17%.

The average cost of buying a home in Windsor-Essex inched 1.06% to $201,175.

Meanwhile, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation says ground broke on 174 single-detached and multi-unit homes last month, an increase of 96% over last September. The year-to-date figures say construction started on 613 units compared to 508 between January and September 2014. That's an increase of 21%.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
