Work Begins On Ronald McDonald House (GALLERY)

Construction has started on Windsor Regional Hospital's new $1.4-million Ronald McDonald House.

Southwestern Ontario's Executive Director of Ronald McDonald House Charities Margaret Anderson says Canada's first home within a hospital will be uniquely designed.

"We really felt that it was important for it to be comfortable, and yet still have a sense of elegance," says Anderson. "So we went for a cottage-chic (design), because where are you more comfortable than when you're at the cottage?"

Anderson says the house, located on the hospital's third floor, will feature seven bedrooms, a full kitchen, a laundry room and bathrooms with showers in them.

It's expected to open in April of next year.
