Public Board Considers Municipal Liaison

In a bid to be more open to the concerns of municipalities and improve communication, the Greater Essex County District School Board is considering hiring a municipal liaison.

The position would be part of the Program Accommodation Review Committee and would be available to answer questions from municipalities.

Board Chair Gale Simko-Hatfield says the request from the administration was a last minute addition to this week's agenda.

"We have contracted for those services in the past," says Simko-Hatfield. "The person that we have contracted is retiring so one of the options would be to hire a full-time position."

Trustees deferred the request for two weeks so they can go over the information.

"I just want to know the impact to our budget and the funding available."

Simko-Hatfield also says since the matter involves a person's salary, the discussion will be behind closed doors.
