UPDATE: Wendy's Fire Started In Kitchen

Cooking equipment is to blame for a fire at the Wendy's restaurant on Oak St. W in Leamington.

Officials estimate damage to be around $200,000.

Crews got the call at about 8:43am, and the employees inside made it out safely.

Deputy Chief Mike Bradt says 18 firefighters attended the scene and saw black smoke upon arrival.

"Being that it was in the kitchen there's lots of oils from the fryers and the cookers," he says. "We believe that's where the fire originated from in those areas, so that's why the heavy black smoke was caused from the oil burning."

Wendy's will remain closed at least for today.
