Minivan, Transport Collide In Aburg

A minivan driver had to be extricated in Amherstburg Monday night after a transport truck barreled through a stop sign, police say.

Both vehicles came to rest in a ditch at the intersection of Concession 2 North and North Side Rd. at around 8:30pm.

Although the 51-year-old Amherstburg resident was extricated, police say they were sent to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The 46-year-old male truck driver from Mississauga is in hospital in stable condition.

The area was closed for about five hours while crews contained a fuel spill from the tractor trailer. Power was also affected. The road has since reopened.

Charges are pending against the truck driver as witnesses told police the transport ran a stop sign.
