Pepper Spray Attack Inside Grocery Store

A pepper spray attack forced a downtown Windsor grocery store to evacuate the entire building.

A witness reports seeing several fire trucks and police vehicles at the Food Basics on Goyeau St. Thursday at around 6pm.

Police say this wasn't a random attack. There was an altercation between two suspects and a 28-year-old victim when the pepper spray, or possibly bear spray, was used.

A few customers and two others were inadvertently hit by the spray when trying to intervene.

Two people fled on foot toward Goyeau and the entire store was evacuated as a precaution.

Windsor police are treating this as an assault with weapons investigation.

The victim is being uncooperative and police are expected to release suspect descriptions later today.
